El Dorado County Free Tax Prep
The El Dorado County Free Tax Prep site contains information and resources to support free tax preparation in El Dorado County.
Free tax preparation is offered under the VITA program sponsored by the United Way, California Capital Region, and the Tax-Aide program sponsored by the AARP Foundation. Both programs are operated under the auspices of the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance/Tax Counseling for the Elderly (VITA/TCE) program.
There are strict rules of ethics governing security and privacy of your tax return. You will never be asked to pay a fee and we cannot accept any money or donations for preparing your taxes. All volunteer tax preparers receive IRS training and must pass an IRS certification test every year.
All El Dorado County VITA/TCE sites have now closed for the 2023 tax filing season. We will open again for the 2024 tax filing season in February 2025. Most appointment lines will open to begin taking appointments in mid-January, 2025
El Dorado County United Way VITA Site
Under the terms of our IRS grant, we can only prepare tax returns with a gross income under $66,000. If your income is above that level, please make an appointment with an AARP Tax-Aide site.
